Welcome to Okayest Shooter
If you’re new here, welcome — I’m Jahred Gamez, and at its core, Okayest Shooter is my take on firearms media.
This site exists to cover guns, gear, and the firearms industry in a way that feels honest, approachable, and grounded in real experience. Not everything here is about having the most expensive setup, the most niche use case, or the latest hype. Sometimes it really is okay to like guns simply because they’re interesting, well-built, or just plain cool.
That idea is what started this whole thing.
How Okayest Shooter Got Started
Okayest Shooter grew out of The Powder Horn Podcast, which was the first real step in putting my voice and experience into the firearms media space. The podcast became part of the Okayest Podcast Network, which produces and distributes our shows and gave us the foundation to build something bigger.
From there, it became clear that the conversations we were having — and the perspective we were bringing — needed a proper home. A place where podcasts, written content, reviews, and industry commentary could all live together instead of being scattered across platforms.
That home is Okayest Shooter.
Who’s Behind the Content
While I’m the Okayest Shooter at the center of this project, not all of the content here comes from just me.
I’m joined by my Powder Horn Podcast co-host, Tim Watts, who also works in the firearms industry and brings his own experience and perspective to the table. Beyond that, we work with a small, hand-picked group of friends, industry partners, influencers, and content creators who we trust to contribute meaningful content.
The key word there is curated.
This isn’t an open submission mill. The people contributing here are folks we know, respect, and actually want to hear from.
What We Do Here
Okayest Shooter is built around a few core areas:
Podcasts
Long-form conversations through The Powder Horn Podcast and related shows. These are real discussions with people from across the firearms industry — not scripted interviews or marketing pitches.
News & Reviews
Firearms industry news, gun reviews, and gear breakdowns. Reviews are based on actual use and real expectations, not just spec sheets or first impressions.
Media Services
We also provide media services for firearms brands and industry partners, including trade show coverage, content creation, social media assets, graphic design, and website implementation. This side of the business is built on years of experience working inside the industry.
Merch
Stickers, apparel, and morale patches that support the brand and keep things fun. Merch isn’t the mission — it just helps fund the content and lets people rep the vibe.
Our Philosophy: Guns Should Be Fun
Not every firearm needs a hyper-specific role.
Not every purchase needs to be justified by spreadsheets.
And not everything has to be about what’s “duty-rated.”
Guns are tools, yes — but they’re also mechanical art, history, engineering, and hobbies. It’s okay to own a firearm because you enjoy it. It’s okay to like something because it’s interesting. And it’s okay if your collection doesn’t look like anyone else’s.
Okayest Shooter exists in that middle ground: informed, experienced, but not pretentious.
Where to Start
If you’re new, here’s where I’d suggest starting:
-
News & Reviews – Written content covering the firearms industry and gear
-
The Podcast – Long-form conversations from the range and the industry
-
Join the Email List – Updates, giveaways, and behind-the-scenes content
-
Media Services – If you’re a brand or partner looking to work together
The email list is where everything ties together, so if you only do one thing, start there.
What’s Coming Next
This site will continue to grow into a centralized home for:
-
Podcast episodes and supporting articles
-
Firearm and gear reviews
-
Industry commentary and trade show coverage
-
Collaborations with creators we trust
-
Content that’s meant to be useful, not disposable
The goal is simple: build something that lasts and is worth coming back to.
Welcome to the Show!!!
If you’ve made it this far, I appreciate you being here.
Take a look around, listen to an episode, read a post or two, and if it sounds like your kind of thing — stick around. Okayest Shooter is just getting started.

When you’re ready, next up we should do Post #2: How We Approach Firearms Reviews — it pairs perfectly with this and turns your blog into a credibility engine.
